Diversions update – Affecting our Services

September 17th, 2014

A summary of road closures and delays that I know about for the next week!

Service 150: Bierton Road overnight but service buses allowed through – 15 September for 9 nights [assume 2 weeks of Monday to Friday].

Service 300: Tuesday 16th September – 1900? Onwards – roundabout in Stoke Mandeville closed so needs to operate via Wendover Road, Wendover by-pass and Nash Lee Lane

Wednesday 17th September – 1900? Onwards – Risborough Road SM to Terrick closed – so needs to operate via Station Road Sm, Wendover Road, Wendover by-pass and Nash Lee Lane

Service 55: last return journey – Tuesday 16th September as via 300 above so via Wendover Road direct to Wendover. As this has plenty of layover in Chesham, could do a double run via Mandeville Road to SMH and back to the gyratory?  Last return journey – Thursday 18th September for 2 nights [Friday 19th as well or Monday 22nd?] – A413 at Wendover Dean closed. Will need to divert via back roads of Ellesborough, past Chequers etc to Great Missenden – this is difficult route [needs a small bus] especially in the dark so a driver that knows where they are going would be helpful!

Amersham Charter Fair – Friday 19th September will need to divert all day in both directions via Amersham by-pass, left Gore Hill [observe bus stops in both directions] and right London Road and normal route – vice-versa on return.

Services 280, 110, 120 group – as previously notified, Thame Fair from 16:00 on Wednesday 17 September through to midday on Sunday 21 September with services via Bell Lane and omitting North Street and High Street [120 group also via Wellington Street].

Service 280 – Queen Street closure in Oxford City centre eastbound on-going until sometime on Monday 22 September.

Service 280 – From Saturday 20 September for 11 weeks. Several items all connected to improvement works at Green Road roundabout and the bus lanes in London Road, Headington, as follows:-

a) Speed limit from roughly the Wheatley slip-on to the A40 through to Thornhill Park & Ride reduced to 50 mph

b) Speed limit from Thornhill Park & Ride to Risinghurst Turn reduced from 50 mph to 30 mph

c) No access to or from the A40 to Collingwood Road, Risinghurst

d) Various other banned turns that might well cause delays as motorists grind to a halt.

e) Bus lane from Thornhill Park & Ride to Green Road roundabout suspended. What isn’t clear is that if this means the bus lane is blocked off, reducing the road to 2 lanes, or if the bus lane is available for all traffic to use – if the latter is the case, then presumably the “bus gate” traffic lights by MacDonalds will no longer be in operation.

So overall, what is certain, is that there are likely to be traffic delays in both directions from Wheatley A40 to Headington shops for some considerable time!

THAME FAIR – ROAD CLOSURE SEPTEMBER 17th 21st

September 13th, 2014

The annual Thame Fair is to be held next week meaning that Thame High Street, Cornmarket  and part of North Street will be closed to traffic.

Diversions will be in place from 16:00 on Wednesday 17th September until 12:00 on Sunday 21st September.

Service 40 will divert from East Street via wellington Street to drop off at the bus stop by the Police Station, turn around the roundabout, along North Street then layover and pick up in Wellington Street as close to the junction with North Street as possible, departing via wellington Street to East Street and normal route.

Service 110 will divert from Aylesbury Road by the cricket ground via Bell Lane into Lower High Street, observe as the main stop  the one at The Old Thatch and depart via Lower High Street, Oxford Road and the by-pass.

Services 120, 121, 134 and 124 will operate from the lower High Street via Bell Lane, North Street and Wellington Street to reach East Street and vice-versa. Passengers should be allowed to alight and board, plus any layover required, in Wellington Street as close as possible to the junction with North Street.

Service 280 will operate from Aylesbury Road by the cricket ground via Bell Lane to Lower High Street observing as the main stop the buss tops by The Old Thatch and The Museum, departing via Lower High Street as normal, and vice-versa coming back from Oxford.

CLOSURE OF QUEEN STREET, OXFORD

September 8th, 2014

The closure of Queen Street/Bonn Square in Oxford for sewer works has now been rescheduled to Wednesday 10th September at 07:00 through to Monday 15th September at 17:00.

The 280 will need to divert coming from Oxford Rail Station from New Road via Castle Street, Old Greyfriars Street, Speedwell Street, St.Aldates, to High Street and normal route.

Although no bus stops are missed, due to the extra length involved on the diversion, delays can be expected

AYLESBURY: OXFORD ROAD & CHURCHILL AVENUE EVENING DIVERSIONS

August 29th, 2014

Please note the current Oxford Road post-1900 road closures will again take place on Monday1st & Tuesday 2nd September. The road should be open on the evening of Wednesday 3rd.

From Wednesday 3rd September until Thursday 11th September, [excluding “weekends”] Churchill Avenue will be closed from 1900 meaning service 9 cannot return to normal route. The 9 should maintain the current evening diversion, i.e. via Walton Street, Gyratory, Chestnut Crescent, Taylor Road to regain normal route at Church Square.

Apart from the Haddenham Sunday closure [on 31st] and the Buckingham, London Road closure on 1st to 3rd, that should be it for the week but note there maybe a daytime closure on Thursday or Friday of the Marroway in Weston Turville – if this occurs, the 50 will need to run direct via the A413 between Marroway and Worlds End.
