WAYFARER200 JUST THE TICKET FOR ARRIVA

Smart ticketing technology is spreading right across the south of England now that Arriva The Shires has joined Arriva Southern Counties in the ITSO revolution.

Arriva The Shires has become the latest operator in the Arriva Group to adopt the Wayfarer200 ticketing platform developed by Parkeon, with the ITSO-enabled on-vehicle technology will be  installed on 500 buses across Essex, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. This follows on from an Arriva Southern Counties project to install over 500 Wayfarer200 ETMs, with built-in GPRS technology, on buses operating across Kent, Essex and Surrey.

"The new roll-out with Arriva The Shires demonstrates the critical mass that our smart ticketing technology is gaining throughout Britain," says Parkeon Head of UK Sales Gavin Trimnell.

"Operators such as Arriva are quickly joining up the ITSO ‘dots’ to create a truly smart picture of future bus transportation that is benefiting bus companies and their passengers. The concept of smart is moving beyond concessionary travel, with more and more operators launching commercial schemes and making interoperability a reality in many parts of the country."

Amidst this continuing growth, the Wayfarer200 is proving to be a valuable building block in bus companies’ retail strategies through its ability to handle multiple ticketing types and standards.

Arriva’s Regional Commercial Director, Kevin Hawkins, said: "Arriva is at the forefront of using technology to enhance the passenger experience – our latest investment in the Shires network will allow us to introduce exciting new commercial smart card products."

The partnership between Arriva and Parkeon extends over many years. The Wayfarer200 represents the fourth generation of ETM technology adopted by the company since the early 1980s.

Nationally, the latest contract brings the number of Wayfarer200s purchased by the Arriva Group to around 3,900 for its UK operations

Princes Risborough High Street will be closed for an RAF Freedom Parade on Monday 28 May between 1300 to 1500. Service 300 will need to divert during these times via New Road and observe the part-time bus stops on that ring road. Service 120/121 will need to terminate in New Road and turn using the roundabout at New Road/Horns Lane by M&S.

However in addition the parade will also march along Bell Street at about 1400 and the road will be closed for about 10 minutes whilst this occurs – no diversion is possible so any service 300 buses in the vicinity at that time will need to wait until the road is re-opened.

Frogmoor in High Wycombe will be closed for an open air church service to be held on Sunday 27 May from first bus until 13:00.

Services 300 and 31 will need to divert via Glenisters Road and Arch Way thus not serving the stops in each direction at Frogmoor and Oxford Street. Last bus stop going into High Wycombe before the Bus station will thus be at Beaconsfield Arms and first stop coming from High Wycombe Bus Station will be Morrison’s.

Service 60 will be diverted on MOST journeys within Buckingham due to the closure of London road for resurfacing, between Monday 14^th May and Friday 25^th May.

Except for the journeys listed below, service 60 will divert from the roundabout just after Tesco, via right onto the A421, left onto the A413, left onto the A422, Stratford road and right into the Bus Stand – on departure follow the reverse of this diversionary route back to Tesco.

Journeys at 0730 ex Aylesbury [OUTWARD only]; 1445 ex Aylesbury and 1537 ex Buckingham can follow the normal routeing to enable schoolchildren for Buckingham Upper and Royal Latin to be dropped off and picked up – but drivers must show caution and patience if signage and/or equipment need to be moved to allow buses through.

Aylesbury Road in Wendover will be closed on the evenings of Tuesday 8^th & Wednesday 9^th May for repairs.

Service 55 will be unable to serve Wendover so will use the by-pass instead.

Any passengers wishing to alight in Wendover should e dropped off in the vicinity of either roundabout at each end of the by-pass
