AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.
I HOPE EVERYONE HAD A FANTASTIC FESTIVE PERIOD AND ENTER 2009 REFRESHED AND WELL.
So to business and the obvious starting point being the new vehicles. I can gladly say that they are here and are here to stay. Which is fantastic news for the depot and I hope everybody enjoys driving them. They have now been rolled out into service and I therefore need everybody’s help in looking after them. Please please respect them and report any issues with them – we need them to stay in prime condition for a long time – YOU ALL KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES to get new vehicles at Aylesbury.
We are currently working with the County Council to finalise the fleet profile here in Aylesbury and this is almost complete which should see a significant improvement to the fleet we operate and the buses you guys drive, which can only be GREAT news for the garage.
BUT, it came at a price. Through the tendering process we put a package together to safe guard most of the work we operate in and out of town and we retained most of it, but from Feb 23rd we will lose the SilverRider – this has gone to Z&S. The package does mean changes to other town services and the service 100/ 150 and more details will become available when finalised.
It is also likely that the 54 and 66 will be renumbered to LINE 50 and 60 to fit the network plan.
There is no doubt that 2009 is going to be a difficult year. The economic downturn and fuel prices have led to tough financial challenges for the garage this year. With the ever rising cost of insurance and claims placed on top of this we do need to raise our game in both passenger performance and accident costs.
Last year saw the depots worse recorded accident statistics and cost EVER, a large increase with some significant damage and BILLS. WE NEED YOUR HELP TO REDUCE THIS!!!!!
PLEASE THINK BEFORE MAKING A MOVE, ASSESS A MANEUVER BEFORE MAKING IT AND THINK CAN I REALLY GET THROUGH THAT GAP.
PLEASE HELP EACH OTHER, OUR SECOND HIGHEST ACCIDENT HOT SPOT WAS THE BUS STATION AND 4TH WAS THE YARD, SO A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS WERE IN VERY FAMILIAR SURROUNDINGS AND OFTEN INCLUDED 2 OF OUR VEHICLES. SO PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU ACT AND NOT JUST WITH THE NEW VEHICLES. One case has now cost the garage over £100,000 alone!!!!
On the point of accident reduction I am glad to announce that Stuart Robinson has joined the Road Safety Group and we look forward to working with him in reducing our horrible stats, through interesting and fun schemes. Please offer Stuart your full support and make suggestions to him and ask him for help if you need any advice.
Sorry, its turned into a bit of a moan, so I will sign off here, thank you all, again for your efforts in 2008 and look forward to working WITH you all in 2009.

Outlines the plans for Aylesbury depot in the coming months
Now the new buses are up and running the older buses will gradually move out – some have already been sold believe it or not!
Double deck wise 5117 has already gone to MK and 5830/2/4 are all rumoured to of found a buyer. 5132 and 5123 should leave soon as well 5127 or 5128 will also go fairly soon.
Single deck wise, the two Lances 3377 and 3378 have been sold, 3172 has already gone to MK; 3823 should go there as well after its MOT and 2247 will be going as well. The 6th single deck bus to go will be 3178.
This list is still provisional as one of the deckers may stay and 3179 go instead.
Then after half term week [14th to 21st February], we have a scheme of service changes affecting Aylesbury Garage, commencing from Sunday 22nd February. Final details are still being worked on.
Basically Silver Rider passes to another operator on Bucks re-tender. We have retained Green Route 4, though the route and timetable will change. It will run as now from the Coppice via the Town to Church Square, then via Churchill Avenue [the currently unserved part], then via Ellen Road, Hawkslade. Ellen Road, Hannon Road back to Church Square and then as now via Taylor Road back to Town and the Coppice. It will now inter-work with the 9 to provide a joint service to and from Walton Court.
Red Route 9 will now run every 18 to 20 minutes in the peaks and 15 minutes off peak but with the 4 giving a 9 to 10 minute peak service and 7 to 8 minute off peak service between Hawkslade, Walton Court, Church Square and Town. The 9 will then carry on to Bedgrove as per the current Blue Route 2.
Blue Route 2 will now only run between Great Western Street and Haydon Hill/Quarrendon – the Bedgrove part being covered by the 9. The combined changes on the 2, 4 and 9 saves 2 vehicles but the same or a better service over the busier parts of our network. Station Boulevard should also be open by then and will be used by at least the buses coming from Bedgrove and Taylor Road.
Services 100 and 150 will be revised with new timetables. The 100 has some minor timing changes – it will run via the Bus only Lane between Portway and Elder Gate to access MK Rail Station in a more direct way. On leaving MK Shops it will then go straight over at the traffic lights to serve the stop down near the Food Centre, which is nearer for the Theatre and ski slope, turn left at the end, left again and right at the lights back onto Secklow Gate and as now. The 150 will have most journeys extended to or from Milton Keynes and will hopefully be mostly run by low floor buses if we can obtain a couple from Hemel.
The 8 will be withdrawn but for the time being until the Town Centre rest room is ready will run to the current timetable but as a private staff ferry bus.
The former 280 Volvo Olympians will formally be given a home on the 54 and 66 – which will be renumbered Line 50 and Line 60 respectively. Another one will be allocated to run journeys on the 613, the 16, the 66 and a pm peak journey on the 280 to Oxford and back.
As I said the details are s
till being finalised and there will be a complete duty re-cut once the services are registered – hopefully sometime next week.

Aylesbury Driver Mark Patey was given the honours of being the first driver to use the Citaro in service on Tuesday morning
A total of six Citaros have been allocated for use on the Service 300, this will enhance the service we provide
